Contracting a Mural
What Does the Process of Contracting a Mural Look Like?
We've been doing murals for five years now and, in doing so, we've developed a fine-tuned process that is both efficient and consistently delivers professional results.
Here's an Overview:
Consultation
Goal: To work together to develop a vision for your mural.
This is the initial phase of the mural process. This is where clients reach out to let us know they are interested in having a mural painted as well as any questions or concerns they have.
These consultations are either held in-person, over-the-phone, or in a virtual meeting and you're under no obligation at this stage. We're simply collaborating on a vision. We'll discuss the best options for your space, the timeframe you have in mind, and address any of your concerns.
Here's a list of things that will help speed up the process and ensure we understand exactly what it is you have in mind for your mural:
A picture(s) of the space where you would like the mural painted.
The measurements of the space.
Photos of inspiration of what you would like in the space. The next step of the process is much smoother if you bring us reference photos of other murals, photos, or ideas you have in mind.
Once you decide you would like to schedule a consultation, simply reach out to Alejandro at (325)340-5742 or email us here.
Getting Started: The Payment Process
Goal: To deliver you with a transparent payment process.
Once we have consulted, we will then put together a quote for your mural and send it back to you.
The quote will contain customized versions of the information below, but we want you to have an in-depth understanding of our process prior to any decisions.
Our payment process works in 3 steps and each step applies to your final bill. These steps are not additional charges, but are simply installments towards your final bill that allow us to begin our work as soon as possible.
Currently, we charge by the square foot. Our present rate is $26/sq. ft. This is something we are happy to go over with you during your consultation.
Here's our payment process:
Design fee $60 (This is applied to your final bill).
The design fee covers the process of drafting and creating the design for your mural. This will include a mockup of what your space will look like after the mural is completed that you can use for any of your business needs (proposals, loan applications, purchase order). Rest assured the initial design fee is not a separate fee from the mural process. It is simply a small deposit that will be applied to total we quoted you.
This fee covers up to five changes to the design of your mural. If additional changes are needed, there will be an additional design fee. In our experience, clients rarely require more than five changes for the design of their mural. However, if it happens, this fee ensures we have the space to focus our creativity to really nailing down the specific concept you have in mind. These extra changes will require an additional fee that will be added, not applied, to your final bill. However, this will be brought to your attention before any decisions are made and fees are applied. This is a collaboration between our business and yours.
If an issue arrises and you are not able to follow through with the mural, the design fee is non-refundable.
However, you may bring the design back to us at any time to return to the project!
Once we have your initial design fee, we will begin working on creating your mural mockup.
Deposit 50% (This is applied to your final bill).
Once we have agreed on a design that your delighted with, we want to begin as soon as we can! In order to do this, we will need to purchase the specific supplies for your project.
Therefore, we require a 50% deposit (specific amount will be stated in your quote).
Once we have received your deposit, we will schedule a time for us to begin working on your mural!
Final payment of your final bill after the work is completed.
After completion of the work, we will send you a final invoice for the remaining amount due. This is due within 5 business days of our completion of the work. Throughout the mural creation process, we will keep you up-to-date on our progress so this won't sneak up on you!

Drafting Your Mural
Goal: To create a digital blueprint of your mural.
Once we have received your initial design fee (mentioned above), we take the vision we discussed during the consultation and alchemize it into a tangible rendering for you to see! Using Procreate, we will create a blueprint for ourselves that allows us to take action and paint your mural with precision while we will simultaneously be making a mock up of what the mural will look like in your space after we complete it.
You will get a copy of this mock up for your own use.
During this process, we will keep you up-to-date with the mockup's progress and make any changes you feel are necessary. With the initial design fee, you may make up to 5 changes; though as we have said prior, making this many changes doesn't happen very often. However, if we do need to make further changes, we'll work with you to develop a plan for making the mural exactly what you want.
Beginning the Mural: Laying Out the Mural Using the Doodle Grid Method
Goal: To lay down a grid on the mural's surface to ensure precision.
A doodle grid is our preferred method for starting a mural. This method is a time-efficient technique that artists use to map out their design on a chosen surface without using either a ruler or a projector.
Rather than measuring out a precise grid or tracing a projected shape, which has a large margin for error and is time-consuming, the doodle grid method consists of shapes, letters, numbers, and other designs drawn onto a wall or canvas at random (don't be surprised to see a couple of our cats in the doodle grid!).
These “doodles” serve as an anchor, creating reference points for the digital blueprint of your mural, ensuring that the final product turns out well scaled, proportional, and as you envisioned.
Don't worry! As chaotic as a doodle grid may look, it's only the primer. The entire doodle grid will be covered at the end of the mural.
Painting Your Mural
Goal: To take the agreed upon design and translate it to your space.
Once we have scheduled and coordinated times to work on your mural and we have received your 50% deposit, we will begin working on your mural.
With over 15 years of experience of working on commissions and creative projects, we have honed an efficient system of painting a mural. As we work, we will be working diligently through each stage of the blueprint to deliver the vision we agreed to in the design.
During this time, we will keep you updated with our progress as well as insuring we maintain a clean workspace. We bring our own materials, tarps, painter's tape, and cleaning materials to take special care not to disturb or allow our paints and materials to end up in places they ought not be! During the mural process, we take special care to tape off any outlets, windows, baseboards, vents, etc. as well as work with you to remove any equiptment or items that might cause accidents or spills.
We do require access to a water source and a restroom. Preferably, we can use a mopsink or outdoor sink to ensure proper disposal of any paint materials.
Usually, we will break down our materials and take them with us as we work each session, but, again, we will keep you in the loop as we work.
Protecting Your Mural
Goal: To ensure the longevity of your investment.
We use high quality materials to make sure your mural looks amazing and is built to last.
We have painted enough murals to understand how necessary it is to invest in good paint to create a mural that not only looks beautiful, but lasts in the cold, rain, heat, or snow.
For outdoor murals, we use external paint that is 'extreme all weather protection' as well as self-cleaning. It comes "rain ready" which means that it resists water marks, runs and blisters. It contains UV defense to protect from exposure to the sun (which has come in particularly handy for harsh West Texas summers). This paint is resistant to mold, mildew, and algae and contains a stain blocking formula to help prevent new stains from setting in.
In addition, for outdoor murals, we apply a Quickrete Sealant. This sealant provides an extra layer of defense against environmental damage and UV exposure. This layer itself adds 15 to 18 years to your mural's life.
For indoor murals, we use equally durable paint that is safe for all those who occupy the space. It repels stains, scratches, and scuff marks which is very important for high traffic areas. This paint allows for common household stains to be washed off with ease as well as has a mildew and mold resistant finish. This paint is made to last and resist fading from the environment with the highest quality.
Project Completion
Goal: To complete the project so you can enjoy your new work of art!
After completion of the work, we will send you a final invoice for the remaining amount due. This is due within 5 business days of our completion of the work. We will provide a final invoice so you have them for any tax or reports.
